You know, I'm not even 100% sure I want children, but it's still really depressing to hear another academic say that, when she chose her career path, she felt she had to give up the idea of having kids.

The powers that be are so shortsighted. Institutons that don't generate income always suffer cuts first. Money seems to be what our priorities continue to be.
