i took my dog for a walk last night. on our way home we walk on an unpaved street that people can't drive up and down. it's quiet and there is about 3 acres of mostly undeveloped property on one side near the end. this is the neighbor hood moose camp ground and bird sanctuary.
last night there was 4 ravens, 3 magpies, and one bald eagle in the same tree. the eagle was about 10 feet above my head, and on a branch that hung directly over my path. my dog is half lab, and half rottweiler. he usually goes nuts when he sees birds but he was calm, and uninterested .
we caught the eagles attention, and then she and i locked eyes. i was now in a stare fight with a beautiful, young, adult female eagle, and at close range. she looked directly into my eyes with a piercing bird of pray look on her face. then she cocked her head at the passing entertainment and looked away.
so, i'd like to think i won the stare fight but i have a feeling she let me win.
