I was just reading on one of the boards about Wal-mart being sued about an Evanescence album and it prompted me to do a Wal-mart rant that would not be appropriate there, so I'll do it here: (if you want to gripe about Evanescence go here.
I've been Wal-mart free for 2+ years now...and with minimal shopping there up to then. Here are my problems with shopping there and why people shouldn't:
1. discrimination against female employees...One of the largest class action suites was settled/won over this by the female employees of Wal-mart (and Sams). These women were payed less than their male counter parts and did not have equal access to promotions.
2. Wal-mart has such a control over the market that in order to cut costs competing supermarkets and other large retail stores are having to cut employee benefits and wages.
3. All of those horror stories about Wal-mart employees being forced to work overtime for no pay.
4. They destroy communities: Wal-mart moving into a town puts small business owners out of business. In my town Wal-mart was suppose to move in and the community fought against it, eventually semi-winning. We now have a Wal-mart 10 miles down the road in another town's jurisdiction.
This is why I refuse to shop at Wal-mart and I urge others to do the same: it really isn't much if any cheaper and what do you really need at 1am that you can't wait a few hours to get. (besides condoms which you can buy at a gas station
)
That's my rant.

*shrugs*
I'd be more articulate but you covered nearly every base quite well
