Updating from my hotel room in Hattiesburg. Will be here for the next two days then I'm off to my hometown for a friend's parent memorial service. I don't want to go. I don't wanna ever set foot in that town again. BUT...it was only six months ago that my dad died and I remember that I just wanted to be around all of my friends and not think about parent. So......I'm going.
Last night I went to a reading by Barry Hannah. I adore him. I love him even more now that I met him. The reading was fantastic. He read from one of my favorite books AIRSHIPS. I had to drag my GF with me. She's never read any Barry Hannah......she loved him.
If you haven't read AIRSHIPS...do so now! Hannah's stories are depressing, hard, funny, disturbing and terribly fantastic.
My friend that introduced Hannah, described his stories as "a gut punch". I think that is the best description possible. There couldn't possibly be a more fitting description.
