Hey everybody! I am back from Cozumel. We had a pretty good time, except for the puking. We took a tour of the island, went snorkeling, and ate lots of good Mex food. We also went into the city and did a lil' bit of shopping. I got some silver jelwery, a beach bag with Frida on it, and some other trinkets. Aaron bought nothing but alcohol and ashtrays. We bought 6 bottles of liquour back with us! Little did we know, that you are only allowed to bring back 1 bottle through customs. They didnt seem to care though.
I will make a photo journal for yall, when I get my pics back.
For now, here are some interesting things I saw in Cozumel:
The Gulf of Mex water is so clear and bueatiful. When you look out, you see clear water, then light blue, and the blue just keps getter darker as you look toward the horizon.
Snorkeling is ok, but you really dont even need the gear. You just walk out into the water, about 10 feet or so, and throw out some crackers and hundreds of tropical fish swim right up to you. So close, you can reach out and grab them.
Shopping is a totally different experience there. The store owners stand outside and try to solicit you. They shout things like..."hey I got what you are looking for!" or "come on lets make a deal today" or my personal fav "hey you! come and look at my junk." If you do go in the stores, they continue to talk to you, or follow you around until you buy something or leave.
Everyone rides scooters, there are very few cars owned by the islanders. Tons and tons of scooters everywhere...and the cars/taxis dont watch for them at all. Many times I thought I was gonna see someone go flying off their scooter, or crash into something. Young couples ride on them together, and even ride with young infants in their arms!!!!
Cozumel is very touristy....lots and lots of American visitors. Despite our crudeness, the islanders are very welcoming and hospitable. They are more than willing to talk to you about their culture, and show you around. Very cool people!
