"WHY ARE BLACK PEOPLE MAD AT THE POLICE WHEN 'BLACK ON BLACK' CRIME IS RUNNING SO RAMPANT IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY??!!!"
This statement is silly and ignorant for several reasons:
1. The term "Black-on-black crime" is a frame that perpetuates the stereotype that violence is INHERENT with "blackness"...#cutitout.
Most murders aren't interracial. According to FBI homicide statistics in 2012, 91% of black murder victims were killed by black offenders and 84% of white murder victims were killed by who?….WHITE offenders. Only a 7% difference. With this data…shouldn't we also be concerned about the prevalent 'white on white" crime?
2. Black people don't usually protest or march when thugs shoot each other b/c when Pookie kills….Pookie gets arrested and sent directly to jail. But when Neighborhoodwatcher Zimmerman…or Officer Darren…or Officer Sean Williams…OR Officer Slager kills an unarmed individual…they aren't even SUSPECTED of any wrong doing. #nojusticenopeace
3. So called "black on black" crime IS getting addressed in the black community through a variety of local and national programs. For example the state of Florida has seven Urban League affiliates and the city of Detroit has the Task Force on Black Male Engagement. There is even an annual national Black on Black violence conference. #bettheydidntknowthat
To add....
-Black-on-Black homicides have decreased by 67% in 20 years, a sharper rate of decrease than white on white homicide.
-According to FBI statistics 7361 Blacks were killed by fellow African-Americans in 1991. In 2011, it dropped dramatically to 2447 African-Americans.
-Among Black youth, rates of robbery and serious property offenses are the lowest in more than 40 years.
Instead of worrying about "Black on Black" crime not getting addressed, people should probably stop relying on mainstream media alone for their facts and start "googling" their way out of ignorance.
4. It is a red herring and distracts from the immediate issue at hand. So because Ray Ray shot Pookie...we should ignore the police shooting folks in the back and breaking spinal cords?
That's like us saying that because white people commit over 67% of fraud here in America (FBI stat) then white people had no business getting mad at Bernie Madoff because they need to address the fraud in their own communities first. Or that because white people commit over 73% of Arson crimes (another stat) then they have no business getting mad at Bin Laden for burning down the towers during 9/11. See how stupid all that sounds?
