If you're my friend, then i'm afraid you're in severe danger of being cuddled within an inch of your life, being dragged on many escapades and adventures, being fed (if i like you i feed you, haven't had any problems thus far) and will enjoy the benefits of a true and loyal friend who will always be emotionally honest and true.
Sounds great right? You'd be surprised how many drawbacks there are!
There are people out there who can drop their friends at the drop of a hat, and i'm not about that. I've befriended people who i've been so close with for a year or two, and then they've done the seemingly "normal" thing for this day and age; moved on and recycled their friends!
I'm well aware that people outgrow each other and we've been told to accept this; I know it's not personal, it's just the way things go sometimes, and that's totally fine.. (right?) but i think in this new process and new way of thinking that we constantly have to be moving, growing, and changing, the benefits of life-long friends and growing alongside someone has been forgotten... well, not by me i can assure you!
This is why i cannot do hook-ups, i completely draw the line at one night stands, and the thought of "friends with benefits" knocks me sick. I am a long term relationship-ist, an invest-my-time-wisely kinda girl.
I mean, i'd love to throw caution to the wind and have a new best friend every week, i'd love to have a new girlfriend/boyfriend little more than a 2 month hook up, and not be devastated when it ends, i'd love to be able to switch alliances like i'm changing my panties, as i can imagine it's a whole lot easier, BUT i can't - because that's not who i am.
I'm very selective about who i choose as my friend, who i spend my time with and who i let in.. but once you're in, you're well and truly in. If you're my friend and you're going through that lovely phase where you act like a bit of a dickhead... i will still call you my friend. I don't do falling out with people, that's for children in the schoolyard! I will defend my friends to the end of the earth, and if i love you i'd most likely do anything for you.
