Something I am working on:

INTRODUCTION

"Familiarity breeds contempt."
--Some Guy This One Time

And so it begins, as so many things do (and must) with FX2: The Deadly Art Of Illusion. Released in May of 1991, just before the traditional onslaught of big budget action fodder (Point Break), treacly women's movies (Dying Young), remakes of Young Guns (Mobsters), and, er, sequels (Terminator 2: Judgment...

The 12/12/12 Concert, to be fair, is definitely raising a lot of money for a good cause. The cause, of course, being that Scalpers need money too! I am sure there is no karmic retribution heading towards people buying tickets for a charity concert and then selling them for multiples of their face value. I know the artists are doing this for a worthy cause,...

I find myself almost unreasonably entertained reading old magazines. Tonight's reading is the October 5th, 1989 issue of Rolling Stone with Fine Young Cannibals on the cover. It also has an article about the 15th (!) anniversary of SNL, a review of "Sea Of Love" (Al Pacino flick), and articles on Tom Petty's summer tour, the anti-abortion movement, and Tracy Chapman's new album. Good times.

I couldn't take the wait tonight and decided to go to bed, fairly convinced that Mitt Romney was going to win, which would have been a bad return to 2000-2008. I am so glad to have been wrong. I am hopeful the re-election of Obama will allow him to not worry about having to be re-elected and he really tries to deliver on some of...

Tim Burton's Dark Shadows was very enjoyable (I never saw the TV show). Warner Brothers made three key mistakes in its release. 1-It should have been released in October (inherently it wasn't a summer flick). 2-They shouldn't have sold it as a wacky comedy (it's funny but not silly). 3-It should have been rated R (it feels toned down inorganically to be PG-13). Well worth...

Today is the last day of the last full month of my thirties. I confess not being super-thrilled that in a bit more than three weeks I will be hitting forty. I know age is a number and it doesn't need to/shouldn't define me, but I still am not digging the concept.

I heard that.

I am going to see "The Master" (Paul Thomas Anderson's newest) in NYC tomorrow (70MM as it is intended to be seen!) I have a healthy amount of skepticism about all religions (not just Scientology) so I am interested in this film, as not too many movies examine religious faith. Religion makes people uncomfortable in movies, which is why one can only name one or...
