Just watched on Blu Ray the movie "Margaret" starring Anna Paquin. Apparently it was made several years ago and was tied up because of a disagreement over its length between the director (Kenneth Lonegran) and the studio (Fox Searchlight). It is a 2 1/2 hour film (I didn't watch the 3 hour and 6 minute director's cut yet) and, truth be told, it probably didn't need to be epic length. It concerns a somewhat spoiled bratty teenager (Paquin, who is now 30 by the way) who inadvertently causes a fatal bus accident (she distracted the driver, greatly played by one of my favorites Mark Ruffalo). It involves her feelings of guilt and her own self-importance (didn't we all feel we knew everything when we were in high school?) It is a shame the movie had such troubled origins because it was really a good film and should have been given more attention upon its extremely limited release late last year (Paquin was robbed of awards--not that awards denote quality). I would definitely recommend checking it out. As mentioned, it is long but it is involving and worthwhile. It almost feels like a novel (sorry if that sentence makes me seem like some sort of cliche spewing movie reviewer guy). I hope it now finds its deserved audience on video.
