The Lovely Bones is a good movie. Not great. I haven't read the novel, so I cannot base my opinion on a comparison. The acting was really good, and Peter Jackson apparently cannot make a visually uninteresting film. I am not sure why this is turning into a critic's punching bag. It deserves better. If you are on the fence, go see it in the movies, as it will definitely lose something when watched on a TV. It's always weird when a movie that is supposed to be a prestigious awards-getter comes out and fails at that. If you like Peter Jackson, give it a shot. It is similar in theme to Heavenly Creatures, which may well still be his best film so far (tho' I did like King Kong quite a little bit).
