John Winston Ono Lennon will be dead 28 years this coming Monday. I can't help but wonder what his acerbic intelligence would have made of the Greed Decade (or "Reagan Revolution") that followed shortly after his death (Ronnie having been elected a month prior to Lennon's death--himself a later target of a fuck-faced madman with a gun. Not that Reagan became a tireless gun control crusader--quite the opposite. Goddamn, did Ronald Reagan suck).
Too be sure, Lennon was a man of complications ("faults" not to put too fine a point on it). But certainly he was aware of them and tried to deal with them in a way that was helpful to himself and to others. HIs detriments were overshadowed by his sick level of achievements.
The world is worse off now than it would have been had he lived. Of this I am sure. It is certainly a far less interesting place than it would have been.
