Just saw Clint Eastwood's movie Changeling (no "The"). It was great, it meandered a tiny bit towards the end (the last twenty minutes could have been tightened down to maybe ten minutes) but that is nitpicking. Another great Eastwood flick (how many is that in a row? Jesus Beezus the man is on a roll). I am not always the biggest Jolie fan, but she was excellent in this, restrained enough that when she needed to be hysterical it was more effective (thank God she didn't start at ten and crank it up to eleven or it would have been a painful couple hours in the Sinema). The subject matter (involving missing and murdered children and police corruption) is very heavy but Eastwood handles it deftly. There is not a better director when it comes to violence (he never handles it in an arbitrary way-it always has emotional weight). I am surprised the critics have been so unkind to this film. I can only imagine it's that retarded mentality that when someone is on top too long the critics need to piss on the person and knock them down a peg or two.

It's a shame this movie isn't finding a much larger audience. People bitch about the high level of shallow stupid entertainment in the film industry, but when an intelligent, thought provoking, and engrossing movie comes around it gets the cold shoulder.
