I just watched the film Across The Universe on DVD. I am mixed with feelings of happiness (over seeing such a great movie) and anger (that I stupidly didn't see it when it played theatrically). This is an excellent movie. I don't "adore" many things, but this movie is something I adore (and keep in mind I've only just watched it).
By and large I am not a fan of musicals (except Grease, Rocky Horror, West Side Story, and Willy Wonka) which is what scared me off from watching this at all. The fact that it is all Beatles songs persuaded me. This movie is great at integrating the Beatles songs into a fairly simple story. The visuals are way out and trippy as hell (it is very psychedelic). I think this is one of those movies that a lot of people will have to have their arms twisted to see, but once they see it, they will love it. Great stuff. Highly suggested.
