Richard Pryor has been dead for nearly two years (Dec 10th). Best stand up comedian ever? Yes. However, he might have been the most poorly used talent in movie history. With some exceptions (surprisngly the two most dramatic films--Jo Jo Dancer and Blue Collar) he was in bad movies that clearly misunderstood him. Such a amazingly mean and funny and truthful comic with enormous balls was in movies where he was totally tamed and made family-friendly. To wit, here is a list of Pryor movies in which Richard appeared on the poster looking "ascared" in a minstrel-style fashion:
