If a restaurant named The Heart Attack Grill, which prides itself on selling intensely unhealthy hamburgers, has patrons being felled by titular heart attacks on the premises, can this be considered "thinning out the herd"? When did eateries start priding themselves on selling insanely caloric fat gram-filled food? I have never eaten something notorious for its indulgence factor, and I cannot say I am too...

Tell me if this is weird. A few nights ago I was at Ruby Tuesdays (I fully admit to a love of chain restaurants--that's not the weird part) with a friend and he asked me how my sister's kids (triplets, aged five) were doing. I told him fine but that they can really drive you crazy. I said, in a normal "inside voice" level (I...

I go back and forth whether or not I think the death penalty is a good idea. I mean, it's been around for a long long time, and doubtless will be around for longer still. Not having been the victim of a violent crime or (thankfully) being close to anyone who has either, I cannot say I understand what a victim or a victim's loved...

Through immense amounts of frustration and patience, I was able to get a ticket (one) to see the re-formed Van Halen and a ticket (one) to Bruce Springsteen. It was not a fun day. Ticketmaster put too many high profile shows on sale at the exact same time this morning. I am surprised the site didn't just completely crash. This should have been planned out...

Just finished reading "The Panic Virus" which is about the now-discredited link between Autism and vaccinations. A very gripping book, one I was glad to read. It was written in enough layman's terminology to not lose me. It is pretty amazing to me that people still refuse to acknowledge there is not strong (or even weak) evidence to link Autism and vaccinations. But then, historically,...

Just finished the miniseries "Tanner '88" written by GB Trudeau and directed by Robert Altman. Very good stuff and interesting how relevant its issues are over 20 years later. As we go into a Presidential election year I suspect we will all be politics-weary in short time, but I still would recommend giving this show a shot (I believe it is on Netflix).

I have finally at the advanced age of 39, bought my an Xbox 360. I am not a huge gamer, but I do enjoy a good videogame from time to time. I own two games: Beatles Rockband and Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. While I would love to be good at games like Halo and Batman: Arkham City (I think that's its name), I have a...

Olivia Newton John put on easily one of the best concerts I have been to in recent memory. She was in great voice, the band was very good, and our seats were perfectly centered (directly behind the soundboard). She played every single song I could have possibly wanted (every hit). Definitely a winner. If you have the chance, go see her in concert!

Steven Soderbergh's two-part, four hour plus epic "Che" is not going to be to everyone's liking, but if you have a spot inside that likes challenging thought-provoking films that don't spell everything out for you, I'd say give it a chance. It is exceptionally well made and Benicio Del Toro is stellar as Che Guevera. Deserves to be seen. I'd say watch it in two...

Concerts upcoming! The Bangles, Jane's Addiction, Duran Duran, Guns N Roses, Barry Manilow (what can I say I am a "Fanilow") and last but certainly far from least, the awesome Olivia Newton John! More to come, indubitably. I attended my first concert when I was seventeen (Paul McCartney in Philly 1990). I rarely went to concerts after that. The last three years or so are...

Just saw the band X play the entire "Los Angeles" album. Man, was it good. How this band wasn't much much more popular is a mystery. If they play around you, and you have the means, I heartily recommend checking them out on this tour.
