Sitting on the balcony
we see ruins.
The effortless display of destruction at our feet
as we join hands, your's in mine with a death-like grip.
I hope we wake up soon and see a normal view again
and not the cinders of lost dreams coming back
to assault our eyes and olfactory senses.

Yes, this city burns in flames
and lies beneath a faulted logic that it'll stand forever
when it can really all come crashing down around us
and lay to waste all we thought was sturdy.

I grasp your hand tighter as I watch the flames enter this building in the floors below
and smell the foundation burning
but we don't move or run, just sit in our chairs
like its normal...like its a forgone conclusion and we've accepted it.
Maybe we have and its okay because we're close now
and we have each other, even as we all burn to the ground.

This city lies in ruins. We're still sitting.
Its okay.
