faux-Burning Man
For those of us who couldn't make it out this year, my friend Shannon and I thought it'd be pretty swell if we got all of us together on Sunday night for a beach burn on Blacks beach till dawn, and for those who came, we all had ourselves quite a shindig.
First, just trying to bring over 150lbs of eucalyptus wood down that freakin' paved hill was an experience in itself, and this just after working all day, and having run 24 miles to Encinitas and back the morning of, I was pretty bushed. So, I ate a quick sandwich/dinner, split and partially spill a bottle of red, and then passed out for a couple hours. Wake up to find the party in full swing, joined in the fun, and off we were till dawn. Even built our own man to burn, and up he went, twigs, twine and all. The fullish moon over the water reflecting on the wet sand at low tide was really special.
Luckily, the wood cart was easier to transport up in the morning, but that hill even unburdened is quite the bitch. And now, a shower, my teeth brushed, its time for a full day o' work!
(sigh), another year, but not quite as satisfying a burn as the last 3. Still though, a burn it was, and its time to go over what I've taken with me to this year, and where the next will lead.....
