Bringin' the bling to the tri scene
My friend Tim and I left a campground from celebrating my friend Megan's birthday at 3:30am Sunday morning to drive up to Oxnard, of all places, to do our first triathlon. So already we were in peachy-keen condition, but that didn't hinder us, oh no.
You see, we were there to have fun.
Fuck the wetsuit, I was swimming the 400M in an ugly, bright blue speedo, though fortunately, the swim was cancelled due to unsafe conditions (a 400M would take me ~7min, but the current was so strong, and the surf so big, that it took the elite athletes ~35 min). Not to mention that 53 degree water. So those savvy organizers had us run through thigh deep surf for the 400M, hehe.
Transition #1, whereupon I put on my bright blue cycling arm warmers, and my old roomate's bright blue time trial helmet, pink shades, and sandals. Couple this with my ride: a beach cruiser, decked out in hot pink shag fur, aero bars, and faux disc wheel. My friend Tim had a matching bike.
We actually passed people on $3000 bikes in this getup.
Transition #2, strip to the blue speedo, throw on a pink tu-tu, and run 3miles w/6min splits to the finish replete w/screaming adoration from crowd. Tim followed in a close second, w/matching tu-tu.
Pictures were taken, oh yes. And I'll post them as soon as I can. Photographers from the local newspaper, the organizers, and Triathlete magazine were taken pictures of us, and Tim got interviewed by that newspaper.
Good times, good times.
Edit: I've added a few pics in my pic box. Nuthin' like a shagged out beach cruiser w/aero bars and a disc wheel.
