I have finally conquered a protecting group dilemma that has been plaguing my synthesis for a month!
Kinda funny, too. Had some material lying around that has been giving me nothing but pain, and decided to let it ride on a test reaction. Not only did it go to completion, but now I have 2.5 g of this protected amine on hand. Sweet! It was an amino alcohol whose orthogonality was just bein' all finicky. So tomorrow morning I oxidize to the aldehyde, and in the afternoon set up my olefination.
Olefination. Suzuki coupling. Then let the wee beastie sit in a saturated vitamin C solution and voila! Tricyclic yumminess.
Now if I can just sit down to cram for this japanese final........
