My first blog homework...The last new thing I tried

So this is my first blog homework @missy, @kiley and @rambo! I thought It would be a good place to start since I tried something very new and tons of fun today, I went shooting at the Archery lanes with my husband @kevinmk!

So my husband typically shoots a recurve bow, but given my newfound love of having pretty nails, I went with a compound bow for my first try which allowed me to use a release and a D-loop that kept my fingernails safe from harm. This picture is of the compound bow, the arrows and my target sheet. I could lie and say that I hit the sheet with all of my shots but I really, really didn't. Some of my shots went into the foam area around the sheet and some went into the rubber surrounding the foam.

First thing when I got there I was given the basic instructions and rules for the lanes, and then my dominant eye had to be determined. I fall into the minority where my dominant eye is actually my left eye while I am right handed. That means that I had to draw the string with my weaker arm, and let me tell you is was not easy getting used to using my left arm/hand for things like drawing and nocking the arrows.

This is a snapshot of both my best grouping of my three arrows together, and my closest shot to to bullseye. I would say I did fairly well for myself :)

In this shot you can see the release mechanism on my wrist, it has an opening that hooks to a loop on the string after you nock the arrow into place. Then once you draw it as I have in the image you pull the trigger mechanism that shoots the arrow.

All in all I had a really fun time with my husband out at the range and can't wait to try again, I just hope next time I can keep the string from hitting my arm too much. I really leaves a lovely coloured bruise...
