Yesterday I pulled a man out of a burning car while spectators just stood around and watched him call for help. This world makes me so sad sometime. I made the news.
news article
I wrote them and asked them to write a piece on the apathy of today's society and the sheer inhumanity of humans these days. I wonder if they will do it?
This was about 2 blocks from my house. I happened upon the accident on my way home from the gym. There was a car flipped over on the road and a man yelling for help. There were people standing all around, and cars that were seeing the accident then just turning around and heading away from it. I guess they were just too busy to care.
I got out the car I was in while Alan parked it and I pulled the guy from the car. A few minutes later the whole car was nothing but flames. Everyone, except for a teenage girl who lived down the street from me, just stood around and watched. She helped me drag him the rest of the way across the street and then her friends yelled at her to get away from him and the car. Alan and I pulled him down the road away from the car which was blazing, popping, and squirting molten hot stuff.
I burnt my arm when I grabbed the guy, but not bad. It's just a small blister. Everyone was bitching because he was driving 'fast' but everyone who bitched has speed at one time or another in their lives.
When I pulled him out of the car he said "I was just going to get some milk for my son." There were infant blankets and things in the car. I checked the car for other passengers before it 'blew up'. He was the only one.
Our community has petitioned the county for speed bumps on our road for years. Denied. There have been several wrecks, some fatal, in that same spot. I wonder if they'll put them in now?

I'm trying to keep the faith but I think I'm running short.

It's great you helped. Last year I helped hold a drunk driver that crashed into another car. He repetedly tried to flee with his wrecked car when the driver of the car who was hit pulled him out of the car. As a full grown man I felt it was my responsibility to put myself in the middle and catch a few punches if he decided to hit the woman who was holding him. A lot of people were also just standing there watching. They were more concerned what legal problems would happen to the drunk driver since he may be an illegal immigrant. I told them that I don't have a problem with buzz driving but crashing makes us who drive well buzzed look bad. I also had to testify in court and I didn't get punched.
