I'm usually pretty good at keeping the blinders on when it comes to depressing surrounding but this xmas eve was pretty pathetic. I managed to do a pretty decent job of drowning out the bad (which probably enforced the former) but I met some rad new people and enjoyed a great conversation with a new friend who's pretty all right.

I came home to find a surprise package from my mom. Inside was a tshirt my dad bought me at the 1982 Superbowl in Pontiac MI between the 49ers and the Bengals. I was 10 years old when my dad took me to that game and my memories are crystal clear. It was the first time I was allowed to swear openly in front of adults. I remember saying "FUCK" and "SHIT" and "ASSHOLES" quite a bit. The 49ers cheated a lot and that is why they won. Especially, the defensive backs. The refs were blind. I lost a $1 bet to one of my dad's friends. $1 was a lot of money back then -- it bought 4 packs of football cards or a 45.

Anyway, when I opened the packaged I said "Holy Shit!" and ripped off my clothes off and put it on. I'm gonna sleep in this bad boy. And, if you know anything about me, I don't cry about much but football is in the top three and there were some tears going tonight.

It was a pretty dismal XMAS eve being so far away from family and loved ones -- maybe the worst of my entire life -- and my mother came through and made it awesome.

There really is a Santa Claus!
