OK, so today I'm feeling a little more human although I'm sure I shouldn't have gone into the office for a few hours. We'll see if I pay for it tomorrow or not frown

I really need to be better as I've got a site survey in Dunstable on Thursday and I don't wanna be ill otherwise it'll be the longest and toughest day ever frown

There's a few things I wanted to blog about today; the first being this:

2 men were convicted today for causing or allowing a child to die. A 27-year old woman (Baby P's mother) had already pled guilty to the same charge so didn't have to go to trial. All 3 will be sentenced in December.

Baby P was 17 months old when he died. He was found in his blood-spattered cot with over 50 separate injuries including a broken back, 8 broken ribs, cuts and bruises all over him, a tooth missing, finger nails missing and a toe nail missing as well as a cut lip and a cut ear. The pathologist who studied the poor babies body after death said he'd been hit so hard that he'd swallowed his tooth, which was found in his stomach and his injuries were what he would expect to find had the child been in a serious car accident.

He was seen by a consultant 2 days before he died and not one of these injuries was picked up. Baby P had been systematically tortured for the previous 8 months of this life with Haringey Council Social Services having to visit the child and his mother twice a week. In the last 8 months of his life he'd been visited by officials over 60 times yet no-one picked up on how seriously he was being treated.

8 years ago Victoria Climbie was tortured to death by her own auntie after her parents sent her to the UK thinking she would have a far more promising future than in her native country. Again, Haringey Council failed so badly in caring for Victoria that when concluding in the court case, the judge made a massive 108 recommendations for child protection laws to ensure another child never had to suffer the same or similar again. I remember thinking at that time that maybe, just maybe things would change for the better and poor little Victoria did not die in vain. It has really hurt me today to realise that that's not the case.

I feel so angry about this and the more I think about it, the more depressed I feel as I just know that somewhere out there, there are more babies suffering the same kind of abuse, torture, pain and suffering. Imagine how painful it must have been for Baby P having a broken back, 8 broken ribs, your fingernails ripped out etc. etc., and not one person came to help him. Did he understand what was happening? Did he think it was normal? Oh my God, my heart hurts and I can't stop crying. How could this happen?!

There is only one thing for it, the mother, her boyfriend and their lodger should all be put to death. I don't want them even breathing my air.

I have other things to blog about but they can wait until tomorrow - I promise it will be more cheery than today but this case has really affected me today and I wanted to get it off my chest.
