People annoy me.
Ive said it on many occasions and Ill say it here. How hard is it to be polite? Would it really kill people to say please, thank you or excuse me?
As many of you know, I work with NinedayJane. Everyday there are people who will come right up to my counter and just about push her out of the way. She hates it when someone comes up and stands 6 inches away from her and doesnt even acknowledges that shes there.
I have a theory on this. I think most people think that employees dont exist unless they need something. Your invisible. The line the customer is always right was obviously coined by someone who never worked retail.
Today I had these 3 little girls, around 12 yrs old or so, start giving me shit. They asked how much it was to get film developed and I told them our price. One of them snapped her fingers at me and started moving her head back and forth and said, You gotda do better than that fool. The second one started in on how I was ripping them off, and how they could go to Sams Club of Meijer and get it done cheaper.
This is the argument that turns me against customers. At least once a day I hear this. Its true, both places are cheaper, but my lab put out a better quality. You get what you pay for. I didnt make the prices; I have no say over that kind of stuff. Thats all decided at a corporate level. I do from time to time cut people a break, but Im sure not going to do it for anyone who starts giving me shit.
I know what most of these people want, they want me to match the other places prices. They will stand there and say it over and over like theyre waiting for me to beg for their business. Fuck that. I dont go into Burger King and bitch about how McDonalds has better burgers.
The situation ended with me telling them they either fill out an envelope or take their film somewhere else. One of the girls said something and I told them Im the adult, youre the child, thats the way its going to be. One of the girls left her film, the other two didnt.
On the plus side, I started getting vacation/spring break pictures today. That means two things. First, this is the start of the spring upswing in business. X-mas to March is painfully slow for photo labs, at least around here. And second, this is the kick off of drunken naked co-eds pictures. Today was a couple of girls in Mexico with some shots of longneck beer bottles that werent going in their mouth. Thats all Im saying.

Here are some tips that will vastly improve your life.
1. Girl Scout Thin Mint cookies and Tequila go great together. Do a shot, eat a cooking.
2. When flying, always size up the passengers between you and the emergency exit before you take off. Its important to figure out who you can just slap down and trample. In a perfect world, it will only be old people and children.
3. There is no shame in pissing on yourself when youre on fire.
4. You shouldnt poke a large animal with a stick, but its fun to do to your fiends when theyre puking up booze.
5. Lie. Just make shit up to fuck with people. it's fun.

Say, that reminds me. Did I ever tell you guys about the summer I spent in the Peace Core? It was three backbreaking months in India digging irrigation ditches. It was tough work but worth it. You do something like that; you really get to know yourself. Plus, the look on the villagers faces when we got running water was priceless.
