This is a rant I wrote the day after the State of the Union. I thought Id toss it up here. If you have any thoughts or comments, Id like to hear them.
Politics depends on the apathy of its constitutes.
I think the patriot act is completely unjust, not to mention racist. When I first heard Bush say he was setting up the homeland security dept, it gave me chills. Secretary of Homeland Security sound like someone who reports directly to Adolph Hitler.
Last night, the man who is supposed to represent us, came out and told the world that we will attack you if we think you might be a threat to us. We dont like your government/religion/beliefs/whatever, so we are going to Liberate the people of your country. Its no wonder that most of the world hates America.
And dont even get me started on our fearless leaders plan for America using religion as a way to fix our social problems.
I pray to God he isnt re-elected, but I think he will be. People need to vote. I hear all the time, Oh, I dont vote. One vote doesnt really matter. Well you know what, if you dont vote, you dont have any right to bitch. You are part of the problem. Does one vote count? Not really. But you add your vote to the people in your state who dont think there vote means anything and you have something.
There is a man in the White House who is making decisions that affect every single one of us. And I dont think he gives a damn about us. He wants war, so we are at war. He passes laws that help the rich get richer. He doesnt believe gay men and women have the right to be married. He doesnt see anything wrong with drilling for oil on every square inch of this country.
There was a saying from World War 2, I dont remember how it gos exactly but its something like this. When they came for Gypsies, I said nothing. When they came for the homosexuals, I said nothing. When they came for the Jews, I said nothing. When they came for me, there was no one left to say anything.
We are one by one, having our freedoms taken away. They say its for our own good. Where does it stop? You can be picked up and held indefinitely under the patriot act. Anyone who comes in from the Middle East is photographed and finger printed.
In an airport, you can be pulled aside and be searched. This isnt anything new, but how long do you think it will be before the standard operating procedure will be to take a photo and finger print of everyone that gets searched? This will only take a moment sir.
You may not agree with me. You may think Im over-reacting to all this. Thats fine, that is your right. Im not saying I have any of the answers, but as an American, I have the right to ask the questions.
