"We're not really here!"
...the traditional Manchester City fans' anthem of disbelief at a good performance from their team echoed around the Eastlands stands yesterday. And, to be honest, we couldn't believe we were there. There, and watching our beloved Blues rip through a talented Arsenal team in a 12 minute spell that netted us 3 goals, and put the match beyond dispute.

I have a habit....
.....of finding great albums far later than the release date. Which can mean I am several years behind the zeitgeist at times, although I like to think I'm just retro!
Case in point. When my wife's son turned 18, I bought him five books, five films and five albums I thought every 18 year old should have. I'm not sure I...

HONESTY IS VERY OVERRATED
Tongue That Canot Lie
I was born with a tongue that cannot lie
and how it grieves me
Each fleeting thought behind my eye
just up and leaves me
Into the wild, like a bastard child
born under a briar
Oh to be, oh to be, oh to be a liar
I've been courted by saints and by sinners

I've always believed that there are special circumstances when being less than truthfult is not only appropriate, but necessary. One of the many problems of our time is that lying has become as natural as breathing for more and more people. Rationalizations for doing so have also become commonplace.
I wonder what the reasons are for this massive change in values? It probably has a lot to do with the way our leaders and people of influence behave without any seeming consequences. That creates a snowball effect that has no end in sight.

Discussion. Ah.
In which case, I love honesty. My other half is autistic, and as a concequence he is brutally honest. And therefore I always know where I stand with him.
Besides, you can always trust a dishonest person to be dishonest. An honest person is the one you have to watch out for (thank you Scrubs). x

CORNISH CAMPING AT NOONGALLAS
Hi everybody
I'm back working today, after what feels like a long time away. I can think of a million things to write about as usual, but today I will stick to a little holiday update. What with Merlin still being very young, we just had a few days camping down in Cornwall. It was a site we hadn't been to,...

Still officially 'out of the office'. But can I just take this moment to say 'YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!' We've beaten the Aussies and regained the Ashes!!! What a fantastic performance; Trott's test debut century, Broad's excellent pace bowling, Swann's wonderful spin, Flintoff's larger than life performance, and Strauss's brilliant captaincy. Just SOOOO good! Ricky Ponting's dignified and determined performance as the Aussie captain too, literally spitting blood...

I'll be away for a couple of weeks, having a bit of a holiday, and a rest. I was just going to leave the last blog up. But, actually, I'm feeling quite incandescent at some of the abuse and downright lies, rightwing, fuckhead Republicans are spouting about Britain's National Health Service.
Now, I'm not interested in getting involved in other country's domestic policies. If a...

MY MUM GAVE ME A SEX MANUAL
Okay...has all the sniggering at the back finished? You sure? Let me expand a little on that statement. When I worked at Harrods about 20 years ago, my Mum gave me a seventeenth century guide to marital matters to have it valued at the company's auctioneers. Sadly, it wasn't worth a great deal, as it seems it was...

Of little worth? I'd say it's priceless! I don't know though... black matter I can deal with but "fpungy" would worry me.
We have a couple hundred miles of rail trails right in this area. I hike on them all the time. We'd be much better off, of course, if trains were still running on them though. Progress.

I have wanted to go punting on the Thames ever since I watched Mary Poppins.
It sounds like a great festival. I have to admit, it's been a while since I've been to one, because usually the word 'festival' evokes memories of mud and flying bottles of piss.
What beautiful photos, your daughter is lucky to have a dad who would take her to such a beautiful place.

CAMBRIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL 2009
Well, we returned yesterday from our sixth festival, our spirits only a little dampened by the downpours late on Saturday night. Our first duty was to raise our glasses to our dear friend we said goodbye to last Thursday. Rest In Peace.
Some great music was played, some unexpected gems were discovered, and some headliners.....well, could have been better, frankly.

I love music festivals, they are so fun and the people there are always so warm and inviting. My Sister and her husband go to Burningman every year and I'm hoping to go next year with the Misses. God that will be so much fun! I've been listening to a lot of Pink Floyd lately, I saw them live for the Division Bell tour in '94 and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. That was a little off topic, but that's how I work. Haha! Anyhoo, take care!

Harry Patch, the last British survivor of the Western Front, died last weekend. Badly wounded at Passchaendale in 1917, he went on to become a plumber, and served as a firefighter in Bath during the Second World War. For 80 years, he refused to talk about his time on the Front. But, realising that he was a member of a select and dwindling group of...

Thanks for the uplift, when all I was looking for was a little procrastination. Great Clare Shaw poem, now I have to look her up.
I've covered the war--from the home front. And the only way I know how to write about it, really, is from the soldier's viewpoint (or marine's or airman's, and so on)real people on the front, turning policy into body count and bravery, for a friend beside them, for what it's worth that day.
Anyway, nice thoughtful visit. Thanks.
