I drew this rough plan five years ago.....

....and finally, finally, the garden is beginning to resemble it, rather than the sloping plain of grass it was when we moved in.....

I was out planting the round border till gone 9pm last night. Unlike the long border, with its soft pinks and rosey scents, this will be a blaze of late summer colour when completed, reaching its height in August, and keeping its seedheads into the winter months.

The sun shone on my work for a short while this morning....

...but then the weather turned....

...confining Merlin and I to the house.

I've estimated that I've moved 12 tons of earth, all by hand, to create this garden. It's taken five years, and will probably take at least another one to finish off my daughter's garden by her play house. But it's one of the few things I find genuinely fulfilling at present.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

(Edit) I have removed a long, long moan about work. You don't need to hear it, and sympathy won't change the situation. We all have bad days. I'll stick with the pictures. Just let me say "Arse. Fucking arse." (End of edit)

Instead, here's a picture from our walk this afternoon, of burnet moths on thistle....

grayb:
I arrived too late for the work issues. Whatever the issues are, I sincerely hope that they can be ameleorated.

The vision and reality of your garden are breathtaking. It's wonderful to dream, and even better to make them come true. I've never seen of heard of burnet moths before. Fascinating little creatures - wonderful photo(s)!

It sounds like the back is bettersmile

Good luck and best wishes.
