Ever had one of those weeks?
I'd love to be writing about lots of positive stuff, like fun days out or surprising discoveries. But sometimes work just grinds you down completely. First I return from a great little holiday with my daughter to find my laptop needs a complete rebuild. Plus my Palm has stopped functioning. My daughter put an After Eight mint in my coat pocket as a surprise. I hung the coat over a radiator to dry, and the chocolate melted into my phone. So I got a replacement....only now that won't charge, and is marginally less useful than a fishnet condom. So I will have to get that replaced.....again.
On top of that, I have to run one of the biggest meetings of my life, with people calling in from the UK, France, Germany, the US, to discuss a multi-million dollar savings package for our company, and I am crapping myself.
Thirteen years ago, I would still have been working as a National Park Ranger, and probably complaining about what a cold day it was for building a drystone wall, or repairing a path. I'd have ridden my motorbike in at 8am, hoping that the farmer hadn't taken his cows in for milking, and the lane wasn't covered in poo. A nice mug of tea, then into the Land Rover for some beautiful part of the Peak District. Dig holes, build walls; the Archers on the radio at lunchtime.
Mind you, the pay was awful, it was short-term contract work, and my back gave out on me. Hence the career change. But I do miss it on a day like today.
Back to writing agendas, breaking down year on year global savings, analysing data........ frown
