I get easily excited about clever websites that are informative and/or interesting.
The Global Incident Map is both of these things. And it's neat retro-styled flashing icons are a bit of fun too.
If you haven't clicked the link yet, it's essentially a world map pinpointing the locations of dangerous activity around the world within a particular time frame (default is the past 10 days). A casual glance at the map over the past 30 days reveals to me that the safest countries are Iceland (yay!), Scandinavia and New Zealand. I'd include Canada, but it's way too close to the USA.
Anyway, it's a really interesting look at news of this nature. It includes air incidents, sniper shootings, "terrorist activity", biological threats, bomb threats, and so forth. And you can click the icons on the map for more information, and it narrows down the map view to the localised area. Fascinating stuff!
