I did more research on the place that I planned to move to. It became more apparent to me that Southern California is the second worst housing market in the nation. The area that I planned to move on had a far worse crime rate than the area I currently live in and I began to doubt the area's ability to maintain appreciation if the housing market ever goes into decline down here. There was another area that looked far more attractive but it was 33 miles from work. It's gets hot and smoggy there during the summer but otherwise, it sounds like a decent place to live in.
