How does everybody feel about Roman Polanski?

I just watched a documentary about the controversy surrounding him at the time of his crime called "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired".
What struck me about the film was that it was pretty sympathetic towards him and they interviewed the prosecutor from the original court case and he even said that given the poor treatment he was given by the judge and the US media, he wasn't surprised that Polanski fled to Paris.
Also the way his wife was killed was really tragic. They could make a really good movie about his life.
Kinda makes me want to watch more of his movies. Anyone seen Rosemary's Baby or Chinatown lately?

Actually the prosecutor recently retracted everything he said about the judge tampering and discussions. He admitted that he lied for the camera to ham up his role in the trial because he never thought it would be shown to an American audience since it was a supposedly for a French t.v. documentary and not such a big movie. He said it was embarrasing to admit it now but it was a lie which grew out of control. He said he never had out of channel discussions with the judge and was actually off the case at the time and that he was only coming clean now because he couldn''t get on the stand and lie. It has caused a huge problem for the defense team since the crux of their appeal is prosecutorial misconduct. It was kind of a big story but has gone silent now. I'm not sure what is happening with it.
