I'm pissed.

Senate Republicans filibustered and then killed the climate change bill that would have cut US greenhouse gases by two-thirds by 2050. President Bush had threatened to veto the bill but it never even came to that since the Republicans in the Senate, in a big dramatic move staged a filibuster and actively tried to kill it off.

A memo by Senate GOP leaders, obtained by Democrats, laid out their strategy to defeat the bill. "The goal is for a theme (example: Climate bill equals higher gas prices) each day, and the focus is much more on making political points than in amending the bill," the memo read in part. It added, "The bottom line is the GOP very much wants to have this fight."

While just about every other country around the world (except maybe China) ranks global warming as one of the greatest priorities and is taking active measures to prevent disaster, the world's biggest polluter, the United States, again showed the world that it just doesn't give a fuck.

Not only does it not give a fuck, but if it can make a buck by screwing over everybody else in the process, they'll gladly do it.

Whoever that Hartford guy was who said that we've lost our moral compass was right.

I'm just glad that Obama will kick some ass and restore some dignity to this country soon. skull
cassy:
ugh.
isn't it just depressing that all the technology is out there to run cars on water, yet they have stunted the growth and got us RIGHT where they want us.
i'm telling you i know about this on a really coursery level, and i just woke up and smelled the coffee about a lot of this and it's such crap. a few people are controlling the overall economy? i guess i was just clueless but now it's just upsetting.

It is depressing how we keep sidestepping atttempts to lock in on some serious benchmarks and controls. Where to begin? Sigh. I haven't been so good but this year have started composting as well as recycling more seriously.
