So got back from N.C Saturday.It was nice for SP to finely get to see where I grew up and to meet my family.All and all it was enjoyable.It was nice to see my mom,uncle and grandmother after 9 years. It was strange being back but I definately was reminded many times why I left. I think what we both enjoyed most was listening to my grandmother's stories about when she was younger and going thru all her old photos of young GIs she was "friends" with during the war
I had no idea that she was such a hellion when she was younger.But it was also kinda of sad because I knew that this was probabley the last time I was going to see her. She is turning 90 this April and although she is still sharp as a tack mentally her body is just giving out.And it was just sad to see.But she is ready for it whenever her time comes and is happy with her life.I hope I can say that when my time has come. I also got to hear stories about my grandfather and what a extraordinary artist,engineer,craftsman he was.The man had no formal training in anything besides drinking Vodka, couldnt draw a blue print if you held a gun to his head but built many of the dinner clubs and dance clubs in and around greensboro from the 50s 60s and 70s.H egot a nice write up in the local paper when he passed away.I also showed SP a statue of my great great great grandfather,General Nathaniel Green,for whom the city is named after.This is according to my Grandmother but I still have my doubts seeing how I spent most of my childhood in Greensboro living in poverty...but its a good story non the less
