Going home in the cold night air, I see signs of deities everywhere.

The lotto billboard glows neon hope for both the good and the wicked. Erected up high against the backdrop of treetops and church steeples, I guess this empty hope is as good a guarantee as any.

In every bar down the streets, theres a meditating regular that sits quietlyalmost reverent, almost satisfactorily buzzed. Hes the all knowing one of his stomping ground. Him and all those that join him, philosophize by nursing their drink into oblivion.

The smokestacks in the factory district billow offerings to the industrial gods, whose disciples have changed the world with innovation and irrevocable damage. They have converted millions with the promise of fame and fortune on Earth. Im an unorthodox follower myself.

Every window I pass contains the clergy of the television. Those vacuum tubes turned high-tech, plasma screen, HD alters are worshiped for hours in silence. The men and women are then set loose on the world, to spread the word of celebrity gossip, contrived game-show drama, andwhatever.

All these small gods have a niche of the own; therere so many opportunities to attract worshipers and receive sacrificial offerings of time and money. They can genuinely hold their own against the major gods who have monumental and mostly vacant architectures dedicated to them.

With so many options, Im not exactly sure what to have faith in or what path to follow; I still have a long way to go until I get home.
