Lord of The Nerds: Book or book series.

OK, so I, much like Fred, am running out of time on this little challenge/gauntlet, so after a long wait, here it comes…

We have already established through @dicentra's blog post that I don’t read a lot, which is why I have only just discovered Terry Pratchett’s Mort (Which I am enjoying, by the way.) It’s not that I don’t like to read, it’s more the finding time and the attention span to read (I am terrible, I know this. I spend so much time online scrolling through facebook or this fair site when I should possibly be devoting more time, even if it’s only 30 minutes, to just read something and get caught up in that world for a little while.)

Anyway, I digress. Of the books I *have* read, my absolute favourite has to be IT. I have read it numerous times and often class it as visiting Derry again to see my friends Bill, Ben, Bev, Eddie, Stanley, Richie and Mike. When I’m in that world, I feel like I’m experiencing it all alongside them, battling the bullies and also the terrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Every page seems to spring to life and I feel like I am there, in the 50’s. I feel every rock hit me as I engage in the apocalyptic rock fight, and yes, I can feel that breathing down the back of my neck as I’m racing alongside Bill Denbrough, with a fearsome werewolf or leper chasing me down.

There is something about Stephen King’s writing that is able to ensnare you with it, holding you tight until you reach the final page, and perhaps even afterwards, daring you to go back, unless you wanna be a chicken. That is how I feel about revisiting Derry and seeing my friends again, and my enemies, Henry Bowers, Victor Criss and Belch Huggins. I know that we will ultimately win the fight and I know that every time I turn that last page, I will cry, because I’m saying goodbye to friends again. But, when you have friends like those seven Losers, parting will always be such sweet sorrow.

I tag @eminerale , and @fredhincanada now, because I get the sinking suspicion that if I carry on down this path of Pterry, I might be saying the same things about Sam Vimes, Nobby Nobbs, Carrot, Colon (That feels weird typing that word in appreciation) and the rest of The Watch, some point down the line.

Anyway, and because I’m a trailblazer (Or rather, I am the only person who finds my puns funny), thanks for coming to my FRED Talk. Hope you’re all well and looking forward to a new year.

I’m a big fan of King & IT scared me silly as a teen, not a fan of clowns to begin with! Like most of his books, I’ve re-read it a few times & enjoyed the screen adaptations. I haven’t read Pratchett in years but enjoyed the first couple of Discworld (don’t know if I read them all) & loved Good Omens, which he wrote with one of my favorite authors, Neil Gaiman. Maybe I’ll take a look back for my 2025 reading list.
