Ok, so British degrees work like this:
An average mark of 70+ = First class degree
60+ = Upper second class, also known as 2.1
50+ = Lower second class, 2.2
40+ = Third class degree

My average mark so far, with 8 of my 18 contributing classes completed is 63.4

With a little bit of mathematics which I've chosen to spare you, I calculated that if I were to just scrape 1sts (ie. get 70s) in all my remaining classes, which I've done twice in the last 2 years (a 70 and a 71), my final average mark would be 67.8-- a (high) 2.1

So why bother? If I'm only gonna get a 2.1 even if I work my ass off, why don't I chill out and get a 2.1?
All I need to scrape a final average of 60 is 58.4 in the rest of my modules, which is in fact a (high) 2.2.

So there ya go-- if you need me in the next 18 months, I'll be in the bar...
