So here I am in the United States.
I've only been here 6 days already, but it's been pretty busy.
Spent 3 nights in New York, which was quite a surreal experience in many ways. Having visited a few other places in the States which are most decidedly not New York already, I was aware of how the city is equally not "America". The whole place is like a huge museum and I felt somewhat disconnected from the more well-known sites like the Statue of Liberty and Ground Zero. One site I felt quite attached to was the museum of immigration on Ellis Island. Mrs. Lego and I had joked that I could pick up some tips on getting into the country there, but in reality I was more blown away by other people's desperation to move out here before me. It was quite a humbling experience and made me grateful to have sailed in as easily as I have this month.
Flew to Raleigh on Friday, spent the evening with Mrs. Lego's family and then headed down to Wilmington for a friend's birthday on Saturday. Mostly settling in now and trying to get on with the more pressing engagements today-- learn Spanish, lose weight, get a tan. Until we establish the terms of my home improvement projects, this seems to be largely the shape of things for the next couple of weeks.
October looks good: college football game in Dallas, visit to Kansas City and possibly on to Seattle. Hopefully I'll be slimmer, more toned and more tanned by the time I get there.

I visited NYC with my high school chorus about 6 years ago. About a half dozen of my friends moved there after they graduated. It's a magical place indeed.
