So the gig was pretty cool. I left work on Sunday, met up with the band straight away, got changed, loaded the cars with our gear and then set off on the 3 hour drive to the hotel. Checked in and then set off to find the venue, which took a while-- Sat Nav is great for sweeping drives across the nation, but not so great for twisty roads in the country. Especially when you're not exactly sure on the address or what you're looking for.
Consequently arriving a little bit late, we only had enough time to set up our gear and no soundcheck. The effect was that none of us could really hear what was going on. This was fine for most of the band who just played on regardless, but trying out backing vocals I hadn't rehearsed with the band, it was more of an issue for me. I have no idea how it sounded out the front, but the kids seemed to enjoy themselves and hey, isn't it all about the kids anyway? smile
So inevitably we needed time to wind down after the show, so we got back to the hotel, grabbed a couple of beers and ordered take-out. By the time we were done with that, it was about 2. In order to get back to London so I could get to work on time on Monday, we got up at 7.30 and left at 8.30. Just about got back to work on time, but

7 hour shift + 3 hour drive + 2 hour gig + 5 hours sleep + 3 hour drive + another 7 hour shift = v. tired Lego.

Nearly missed my station on the way to work, and wasn't entirely on the ball all the way through my shift. Fortunately, my colleagues were quite forgiving (and some even quite impressed at my antics), and I felt that I wasn't letting the team down too much by being half-asleep.

Fortunately, I had the day off today (Tuesday) to recuperate from the whole thing, and recuperate I did. Unlike last week's productivity, I slept in, mooched around the house and generally spent the day doing as little as possible. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get back to the productivity. Time to work on my espanol, I think.

At a different uncles funeral they played the Beach Boys, which actually made me cry more. I think your friend might be onto something. wink
