I'm back.

NC was great. Mrs. Lego picked me up from the airport looking The Shit. I could feel just about everyone in the room turn to look at her as she came to meet me. It probably reveals some deep insecurity about me, but it felt pretty damn good. After taking me home to drop off my bags and Get Settled, she took me over to her dad's place under the pretence of saying hi. Actually, she'd thrown me a huge surprise birthday party and just about everyone I know in NC was there. Awesome. No one's ever thrown me a surprise party before, and I've never had a party that big before. I was completely blown away. shocked

Saturday to Monday were pretty chilled. Hanging out with friends, watching films on TV, etc., then on Tuesday we drove down to Wilmington to see one of my friends from England. She stood us up, so we went for dinner with Mrs. L's best friend instead. Around 11 we called it quits and tried to find a hotel room, which in hindsight was a dumb idea. It was spring break and we went to about 5 hotels and called another half dozen before we found a free room. Ended up in quite a nice place, though, so not all bad.

Wednesday we spent the afternoon on the beach, got sunburnt, then drove down to Myrtle Beach to see one of my friends. We got burgers and shakes at this 50's-style diner with dancing waiting staff, which was pretty damn funny. Especially the staff who obviously couldn't or didn't want to dance... The shakes cost $5, and it reminded me a lot of the $5 shakes in Pulp Fiction. They were SO good too. wink

Thursday we headed back to Raleigh, and then drove down to Greensboro-- via a quick visit to Duke-- to hang out with Mrs. L's college friends on Friday. We grilled steak, played drinking games and then headed out to a club, where I drank quite a lot and met a load of cool new people. Suffice to say that on Saturday I was pretty damn hung over. I was ok when I got up, but it got worse as time went on and when we went to see Grindhouse, the new Tarantino film, in the afternoon, I got pretty close to barfing. Hangovers and icky horror movies don't make for a settled stomach... puke

We drove back to Raleigh in the evening, got changed and headed out to this Japanese steakhouse at the mall. It's amazing- they have these chefs that cook your food at your table and juggle the food... it's really hard to explain briefly, but it's a real performance and it makes it really hard to concentrate on eating! smile
The meal took our minds off me leaving the next day a bit too. Last time I left, I knew I was coming back pretty soon, so it wasn't too bad. I had a job to go back to and money to earn then, too. This time I know I probably won't be back for quite a long time and I don't really have a job to come back to here either. She's coming here in May/June and then I'm probably stuck here until September. Fortunately, the summer should be pretty busy, so it should fly by, but that's still a big gap.

Even though I don't have a job here at the moment, I've got quite a lot to do here right now, so I guess I just need to put my head down and get on with it. Hopefully the next time I look up and think about it, I'll be that much closer to seeing Mrs. L again.
