ok so I have a heavy update tonight...but first i'm having an allergic reaction to some peanuts so i'm not feeling that well. myb/f is freezing me out cuz he has some problem and he never allows me to help him so now he isn't talking to me which means he isn't going to pay for my brazilian waxing which i badly need frown but oh well... today i went to the memorial of Stanley "Tookie" Williams. I have had mixed feelings about him having the possibility of having his death sentance commuted to life. I feel that we have to have accountability for our actions. Tookies actions caused society lots of pain, suffering, and trouble. What I don't believe in is the death penalty because it is applied arbitrarily to the poor and minorities. Not only that it is not our place to take the life of someone that authority does not belong to us.

On the other hand I'm a firm believer that Tookie must be held accountable for his actions. I do not believe that he was innocent of the charges. So the question was why did I go? The answer is because I believe in his redemption. I believe that the man he became helped to make things right with his maker. People of the judeo/christian back ground preach that they believe in forgiveness. They are able to forgive and hold in high estime biblical figures like Moses, King David, and the Apostle Paul who by the way all committed the crime of murder. But they refuse to believe in the redemption of Tookie. The irony blows me away.

I went to Tookie's memorial service because I wanted to support and celebrate the man he became not the man he was.

yeah, I was torn over the whole situation too...while he needed to pay for his crimes, the things he did in between was definately something worth continuing. I'm just praying that other people will emulate how he lived rather than why he died.
