Hello SG, I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and are looking forward to New Years!
This is going to be one of those blogs where I look back at what happened this year and pick out the best and worst bits. So if you don't wanna know, now's the time to leave the page!
2012 didn't get off to the best of starts, mostly due to the god awful end of 2011. As I was not on this site then due to funding issues I will give you a brief recap, I lost both of my jobs and didn't get paid for either one losing a total of almost 2000, being a freelancer I didn't have a leg to stand on in terms of being able to do anything about it. So January 2012 started looking pretty bleak. No money, no job, new apartment which had flooded the day after we moved in and absolutely no idea of what to expect.
Much of the first part of this year all blends into one long, non-descript period of time where I couldn't quite distinguish one day from another. All I really remember is applying for countless jobs, writing and re-writing my CV over and over, being berated by the job centre for 'not doing enough' and avoiding answering the phone in fear of it being an irate call from the water or electricity company. I could literally just about afford to pay my rent with my job seekers and whatever odd freelancing job I could get. Things were shit.
It took me until April to start work, and trust me, it was not through the lack of trying! I said yes to any freelance work going but I needed something I could rely on. Finally in May I began my new job in E-Commerce.. I had never done much product work before but it was pretty easy to learn and I picked it up pretty quickly. As well as working 8.30-5.30 Monday to Friday I spent most weekends photographing weddings and freelancing in make-over studios. So suddenly I've gone from no work to work overload! I know what I preferred but seriously, I am so glad the 16 hour, 7 day weeks of the summer are now a thing of the past!
Reading back over that makes me feel pretty good, we were in serious financial dire straits this time last year, but now all our bills are back up to date, the debts are paid and we have moved into a cheaper house so our finances are much more stable. So I guess this was my main accomplishment of the year!
The last few months of this year have been much better. My job is OK, I like the work but I'm not keen on the company I work for so will probably begin looking for something new in 2013, however I will be eternally grateful to them for pulling me out of the financial black hole. I fancy doing something more creative again, the trouble with shooting stills iat our place is everything has to be done by the book, there's no room to do anything more interesting or exciting - mind you there's not much you can do with bottles of pills and boxes of condoms!
Ooh, probably the best part of this year has been getting my studio. I love my studio so much and really want to spend more time in it next year as it has given me the best outlet I could hope for. Images to follow!
Weddings, yes those things have been the bane of my life for the most part of the year, especially over the summer. I quite enjoy doing weddings but am cutting back significantly on the number of bookings for the year. This year I have shot 26, next year I have booked 6! If it stays that way I won't be too disappointed
Anyway enough of the work stuff, this year my social life has consisted mainly of being out and about the the boyfriends band. It has been awesome, so many fun times and it's looking as though things will be the same next year. I love those guys to bits, so much fun!
So that's enough ranting, here I shall leave you with some pretty piccers of some of my favourite moments of the year. Happy New Year everybody!
My fella's band, check them out on facebook! http://www.facebook.com/thirteenshotsband
My very Devonshire summer holiday...
Our new pad!
Our beautiful friends got hitched
Our other friend had to wear s skirt for best man duties...
Not forgetting the millions of other weddings!
I took a lot of pretty piccers like this
most importantly, there were loads of awesome times with the best guy in the world
That's all from me, if you'd like to make my New year happy, check out my page!
