I’ve been on this site for years, but admittedly just lurked. I’d like sets, maybe make the odd comment, but was mostly was pretty quiet. But over the last 6 months I’ve participated much more (mostly drawn into the Silliness threads). The result of that was getting tagged by @chefdaddy to do a questionnaire. Last chance to back out before the tedium sets in...
1. Name: John. It was drilled into me as a child “Your name is John, not Johnny or Jonathan. Just John”. The problem with that was I ended up with a number of friends also named John, so now we all go by our last names when we’re around each other.
2. Sign: Capricorn. I don’t read anything into that aside from the fact that it always seems like one of the duller zodiac signs (focused, practical, etc.)
3. Favourite TV show: Too many to mention. The best things I watched in 2019 were Fleabag (Season 2), Chernobyl and The Watchmen.
4. Favourite drink: Right now, water. I’m trying to cut down on anything sugary from my diet.
5. Favourite alcoholic drink: Dalwhinnie 15-year-old single malt... but all alcohol is good alcohol.
6. Favourite season: Summer.
7. Favourite band: There’s absolutely no way to answer this.
8. Favourite store: Eataly in New York. Liberty in London.
9. Favourite kind of book: Art. Art history. Design. Anything by David Sedaris.
10. What is a cause you are really passionate about? Mental health.
11. What did you study or learn? Started out studying architecture but realised no one was going to hire me to just draw stuff. Moved onto graphic design where I was initially hired to draw stuff (also play with type).
12. What is that one song that is stuck in your head? Currently a tie between Lucy Dacus’s cover of Dancing In the Dark and Sugar’s Changes.
13. Where would you like to live? New York or London.
14. Who influenced you most? My parents for how to interact with the world and others. My first boss for how to become a better designer.
- 15. Who is your favourite celebrity couple? Morrissey and Marr.
17. What helps you relax? Music. Reading. Art galleries and museums. Walking.
18. What topic do you think shouldn't be taboo? Sex, because I think we’d all be a bit happier. Mental health, because we’re all dealing with our own problems and we need to realise that we’re not alone.
19. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life? Having a life that makes me happy. Wasn’t always sure I’d ever get this far.
20. What do you want to achieve in your life? Leave a bit of art behind.
