I was talking to a friend of mine today. He shares many of the same political views that I do. Talking to him it came out that he had lost hope. My friend believed that it was inevitable that George W. Bush would be re-elected to another term. The thing is he is not the only liberal I have heard make this argument, or its sister which says "it doesn't matter the democrats are the same." Now I believe that the Democrats are much the same as the Republicans, but does anyone honestly believe they would act with the same indifference to the opinion of other industrialized nations as this administration? George W.Bush is not indestructable despite what the polls say. The fact of the matter is that this administration has people scared. Whether it is of terrorists or retaliation for speaking out against the president. Fear will not hold any people and especially the American people forever. I too was afraid that if I made too much noise that the secretary of defense would some how "get me". It was not until a co-worker reminded me, other nations cannot seperate American policy from American people since we still put forth that our nation is a democracy, that I woke up.
This Administration has enacted some of the most threatening policy changes ever. With the enactment of the Patriot Act and the detaining of captives without proper judicial procedure they have placed many Americans in fear for there freedom and privacy. The policy of preemptive warfare extends this fear worldwide. Every nation must watch what says or does for fear of pissing off the lone super power left in the world, able to mobilize a modern military force which is backed up with a massive nuclear cache. Our government is making us terrorists.
If the disparity in the popular votes is larger than can be hidden by one state George W. Bush will be ousted from power. Imagine the rejoicing that will happen that day. When the Iraqi people will be rid of two dictators, one with a beret the other wearing a cowboy hat. The American people will once again be able to have faith in democracy, and no longer have to fear that there library records are being searched by the government. Hundreds of illeagally detained Americans will be returned to there families, and others will stand trial publicly for there actions.
Maybe I am being to hopeful. I believe though that this nation, it's people, and the principles of liberty, courage, and independance are too great to be destroyed by one family. We got rid of one shrub and we'll get rid of this jr. specimen.

surveys take a hiatus as I've went on too long and must now go to work. I may add some questions if I get a chance to edit later.
