the assault weapons ban would not have prevented the Tuscon shooting, he would have just bought more magazines. If pistols where outlawed he could have had the same effect with a hunting shot gun or Molotov cocktails.
If the store had a "no weapons" sign he would have gone in any way.
There is no evidence the shooter was republican, he was an atheist, and believed 9-11 was an inside job. There is no reason to believe he listens to glen beck or Sarah Palin.
It is already illegal for a mentally ill person to purchase a gun. They need to have been declared mentally ill by a judge or been institutionalized for it to be on their record.
The handgun was purchased more than 10 days before the shooting.

Arizona has the death penalty, it did not deter him.
Arizona has open carry of pistols, no one shot him.
He wasn't a Muslim, no wire tapping mosques, blocking the construction of Islamic cultural center, or water boarding people in secret prisons would have stopped him.
He wasn't Mexican, build a wall, asking him for his papers, or making English the official language wouldn't have done any thing to stop him.
