hmmm... I've had a week to think about this and though I have looked around at things and people, I couldn't find anything that really jumped out at me as the New Hotness for this week. Perhaps an experience (and in this case a collection of small experiences, rather than a Grand Experience) will have to suffice.
Yesterday I got up and drove to Charlotte, and first stopped at REI where I found a buch of small random camping things. Thereafter I went to Discovery Place where I saw the Body Worlds exhibit. This is an exhibit of plastination of donated cadavers, in which plastic is injected into cadavers and the bodies are then expanded, dissected and etc, providing an incredible opportunity to see organs in place and connected. The creepiest things however were the plastinated blood vessels, where plastic is injected into the blood vessels and then all surround tissue is removed- there was a head that looked like a deep red coral and you could see features. They also had a fetus done in a similar fashion, cast in a resin block, as well as a plastinated pregnant woman with the fetus/uterus exposed.
Then I had a cinnabon
Later on I went a giant outlet mall, bought some new/old Oakleys (Magnesium Fours- discontinued five or six years ago) and watched DOA
ead of Alive, which is a Jaime Pressly-driven, bikini-clad, wank-fest disguised as a martial arts action movie, but also exactly what I needed. I then drove home, stopping off along the way to pick up a couple of steaks, grilled out and painted my table top...
this may seem like a random collection of things or even like a savant's retellling of his day, but for me, all put together, it was an absolutely fantastic day that I spent all by myself. I listened to some PIxies on the way up and rocked out to some Johnny Cash on the way back. I rounded the day off with a couple of projects completed and sat down for a simple but delicious meal, part of which I cooked over an open fire. Hard to articulate why that's an important thing, but I think maybe other guys might understand.
Only two things could have rounded my day out better- a cider (alas it was sunday, so no alcohol sales in South Carolina) and having someone to come home to, either in a romantic or a platonic sense (see previous New Hotness post).
