New Haircut....
I got a haircut today, and I am sooo pleased! Haircuts always make me feel lighter and less stressed, even "bad" haircuts! I like to be changeable in my appearance without having to involve my self-concept, always dying my hair, going short, etc., but I consider a a bad haircut, even a royally bad haircut, to be simply a challenge to my creativity, so even "bad" haircuts fill me with energy and enthusiasm.
When I was living in Barcelona, I loved to get my hair cut at this place called Polo Pelo. It was particularly thrilling since the barbers there only spoke Catalan. which I couldn't speak. This one time, the only phrase that we could settle on that we commonly understood was "Corto" (both adjective and verb). The guy (who looked exactly like the ringleader from Quidam if you're familiar, with his hair all shaved minus one bright red pompador fluff right in the front, but with Elvis Costello glasses and punky plaid pants added) pulled a pocket blade from the back pocket of the plaid pants, pulled up a section of hair and abruptly hacked it off, and then held it out, limp like a dead rat in his hand, and repeated "Corto, si? Muy corto" I was shocked, but still squealed with delight, and he set to work like my head was topiary. I ended up with this rad, albeit odd and challenging do, that seemed to explode sometime in the night as I slept, and give me the greatest bedhead every morning when I woke up. Loads of fun!
The haircut I got today, though, is a great one by any standard, and only $14 bucks! (Supercuts just off Market, near Montgomery BART) I like finding a cheap haircut, although even if I do find one that's really cheap, although I usually go ahead and pay the barber whatever I can afford at the time for the haircut, since I figure barbers are probably in the same boat as breakfast waitresses as far as pay goes. With such frugality, it's good that I like even bad haircuts.
