"She was terrific to hold hands with. Most girls, if you hold hands with them, their goddamn hand dies on you, or else they think they have to keep moving their hands all the time, as if they were afraid they'd bore you or something. She was different. We'd get into a goddamn movie or something, and right away we'd start holding hands, and we won't quite till the movie was over. And without changing the position or making a deal out of it. You never even worried, with her, whether your hand was sweaty or not. All you knew was, you were happy. You really were." - The Catcher in the Rye
I spent today with Eric, opting to see my friends rather than sit at home. I know, it's a big step for me.
We spent a good hour sitting on the Starbucks patio just talking. We both have stuff going on right now and it was just good to say it out loud to someone, it does a world of difference. I did have a moment where someone was driving by, I looked at them, they looked at me, and I could have sworn I knew the person, and if I did it would have been an oh-so awkward moment, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't who I think it was.
Later on Eric's girlfriend and I went out to Sekisui in Cordova (Distracted I drove by the place twice). We met up with Megan, Jody's (Eric's girlfriend) friend. She looked familiar, really familiar, but she didn't let on that she knew me from somewhere, and I didn't want to look like an ass and blurt out that she looked familiar, but didn't make enough of an impact for me to recognize her. Turns out we know some of the same people and ended up at the same party once, but for the longest time I was trying to put my finger on how I knew her.
We went to her apartment where her dog, a cocker spaniel and poodle mix, kept uncontrollably peeing everywhere (I hate, hate, hate small dogs, you might as well just get a cat). Eric and Jody were kind of at each other's throats all night. Actually they weren't saying much of anything to her, just having a little competition to see who can be more passive aggressive, and they were oh so kind to put me in the middle of it. Eric would leave the room and Jody would start venting to me, and then Jody would leave and Eric would start bitching, so by the end of the night I told them both that I had my own things to worry about and if they want to argue they can go right ahead and talk to each other.
So I eventually bailed, going to Huey's with Stephen (I saw two friends separately in one day, I'm going for the record). He paid the waitress in singles. Stephen's a waiter and had a wallet full of them. Our waitress said it made her feel like a stripper. Stephen said, "In that case I've got a whole wallet full of one's" and that was my cue to get us out of there.
Also, I've felt really dehydrated today. I've been drinking water constantly and still I feel desperately thirsty. Just thought I'd let you know, no reason.
On that note, sleep. Sweet, delicious, sleep.
