So I decided, you know what I need less of?
The internet.
I deleted my Myspace account, my Facebook profile is down to the bare bones, and my other blog is no longer for any personal dealings with myself. So why the sudden change? It's like all of my friends would rather send a message over myspace, or just leave a simple comment on a picture or something and call it human interaction. There's no voice behind it, no inflection, no sense of closeness or companionship. It's kind of like people no longer have to form friendships and find things out about people, you already have your whole life pretty much put on a webpage. It's like saying, "We don't really need to talk, everything you need to know about me is on my Myspace."
Whatever happened to catching up over lunch? Hell, I'll pay the bill every time if you'd rather meet up for lunch or coffee than talk over instant messenger.
Of course, phone calls are going the way of the dinosaur, when it's so much easier to send a text message! Because it's much easier to talk in abbreviations I guess. I don't know, call me old fashioned.
Not that the internet is all bad, if it's 3 in the morning and you've got something to tell someone, it's best to leave them a message online rather than waking them up. They might not appreciate it too much. There are many, many exceptions, I'm just not talking about them now.
Now if I ever got a handwritten letter from someone that showed up in my mailbox, not some thank you card or anything, but a real honest to God letter, I would probably fall in love with that person. If it comes from a guy they will get extreme respect and admiration from me, something I don't hand out to guys, ever.
That and my biggest thing is internet stalking. When you find yourself sitting there hitting refresh every two minutes to see who put up new pictures, who has a new blog, obsessively checking our email to never ever miss anything as it happens. We've all done it, and we all need to stop it. You might be doing it now.
Of course I'll still update my blog, and I do respect the whole social networking aspect of the internet, but just because you met someone on the internet doesn't mean you have to exclusively talk to them on the internet. Go outside, it's summer, it's nice out.
And remember, I'm buyin'.
