Sometimes I come home and I think, "I could go for a drink." Of course I get out of work at midnight and all of my friends are scattered doing their own things, so I go home and realize that I never plan ahead for these things and there's beer, but beer is a social drink. There's vodka, but vodka is more of a "I feel like getting extremely social" drink, and what would be perfect would be a glass or two of wine. Of course, no wine, and it's midnight, and it just turned Sunday so wine isn't even a viable option until Monday, and then I can't drink it until after work when it turns into Tuesday.

Right now I'm taking a break from working on a couple of stories. I have noticed that while writing is a mostly solitary act, I mean it's not really a group kind of thing, talking about writing is even weirder. Like if someone asks what I'm writing, and I say I'm working on a story about kids at summer camp, not only do I feel like a pervert now, I feel kind of goofy about writing the story in the first place. All stories are like that though. House of Leaves, one of my all time favorite books, can be summed up as a story about a house that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. The Catcher in the Rye is a story about a kid avoiding home and wandering New York City for a few days. Cormac McCarthy's The Road is about nothing more than a man and his son walking. Actually I just made myself feel better, even great novels sound silly when boiled down to a mere sentence.

You should see me now, I'm sitting back in my office chair, feet propped up on my computer's subwoofer (I just bought a new sound card and speakers since all of my music is on my computer, I might as well make it sound good), My keyboard is on my lap, and I'm literally surrounded by books and notebooks. I'm a slightly obsessive note taker so my notebooks are pretty vital. Also as a writer keeping a journal is pretty essential, not the boring day-to-day crap, but random thoughts, important events, there are always great ideas to get from those things, and a journal provides a good reason to keep writing.
Also, on my computer I have a collection of pictures of random people, and in my notebooks I keep descriptions of people, mostly strangers that I come across, which is a great reference guide for when I have a character that needs a specific look or style. I also keep lists of things like interesting names that I come across.

I've also got some jazz playing and my feet are vibrating (The subwoofer, it actually tickles a little). Now all I need is a glass of wine...
_cielo_:
Rule #1: Always keep a spare bottle of wine for emergencies. Especially in the bible belt where it is a sin to buy, consume or even think about alcohol on Sunday.

I have such a bottle, you should have called me!!
