My step grandmother died five days ago, six days before my birthday. She and my step grandfather always treated me like their real granddaughter, I am so sad for my grandfather, he spent everyday of the last seven years taking care of her, worrying only for her safety. She had alzheimers, and for the last few years she didn't even known who we were, but he still sat by her side and fed her and talked to her everyday. He would get up at five am and be at the care center half an hour later, and he wouldn't go home until sometimes eleven.

Then today as we stood in the freezing cold, listening to the pastors final words all huddled together around the hole dug for her, after days of being strong he broke down and began sobbing, slammed his hands down on her coffin and told her how they would one day be together again and how much he loved her and missed her.

I just lost it, they were married for sixty-nine years. I can't even imagine what I would do if I lost my husband and I have only known him for four.
